Our home feels so much lighter, warmer, usable and spacious compared to before the project. The kitchen and indoor seating area feels seamlessly connected to the garden (which was one of the main aims of the project), so that we’re able to enjoy the outside space all year round. Overall it just feels very special and high-end, without being ostentatious – a cool and calming space for all occasions.
Our previous kitchen was a tiny, dated galley kitchen typical of a Victorian terrace property. It was used for hasty food prep, a thoroughfare to the garden and nothing else. We now have a very social and usable space, with features like the bench window seating area and integrated peninsular which mean it’s now our main place to hang out, with views of the garden which seamlessly flow through the large side-hung window and door. It’s gone from a space where we spend 10% of our time, to where we spend 90% of our time.
The features which have been the biggest game-changers have been the design of the patent glazing and side-hung window/bench seat and patio door. Not only do they look very cool, but the amount of light in the kitchen space, even through the dark winter months, has been transformational. We also love how the extension looks from the outside, contemporary and fresh yet somehow also perfectly complimenting the original Victorian design of the property.
The additional light and space has meant that we now spend more of our time in the kitchen than anywhere else. The bench seating under the new window is the perfect connecting element between the kitchen and the garden, which we also found we have used a lot more than we did before the project. It’s now the perfect space to host friends and family (which we’ve done more in the 12 months since the project completed than in the 5 years before it!)….or simply to enjoy on our own.
